In “The Lazy Person’s Guide to Success”, international best-selling author Ernie Zelinski shows readers that the key to attaining freedom, happiness, and peace of mind is to work less and think more.
The Goal of the Book
Would you like to study or work for just a few hours and spend the rest of your time on other activities?
“This idea must be an exaggeration.” Well… in a way, it is. But there’s an important message in this book.
It offers a series of practical tips that, if applied correctly, can help you reduce your study or work hours by one or two each day.
If you don’t believe me, keep reading, and I’ll tell you all about The Lazy Person’s Guide to Success.
Working, but Efficiently
The book’s subtitle is How to Be More Creative and Successful by Working Less. At first glance, this might suggest achieving results effortlessly and magically.
Well, that’s not the case at all.
The author develops the idea that the greatest tool humans have is their creativity. He argues that to enhance creativity, you should engage in activities you enjoy while reducing the time spent on obligations.
This concept has some similarities to the Getting Things Done (GTD) methodology by David Allen. In GTD, the goal is to clear the mind to improve focus and fully dedicate time to what truly needs to be done.
The book suggests working efficiently for a few hours a day and spending the rest of the time on activities you enjoy.
In other words, Zelinski suggests dedicating only a few hours to work so you can then engage in enjoyable activities like spending time with friends, surrounding yourself with nature, or simply going with the flow.
This will make you feel better about yourself, which in turn will activate your creativity.
However, there’s no magic here. When it’s time to work (because, of course, you will have to at some point), he advises focusing 100%. You must completely immerse yourself in your tasks.
The book covers various topics, such as societal expectations about obligations or extreme consumerism that pushes you to spend money on things you don’t really need.
With this book, Zelinski encourages you to pursue your dreams and dedicate your time only to tasks that truly matter to you and hold personal meaning.
He promises that your future and financial security will be safe if you follow this path, as your creativity will be at its peak, providing you with everything you need.
A Book for Busy People
Although the book is aimed at people working long hours in demanding jobs that consume their lives, it can also be applied to young students who spend countless hours studying while neglecting other important aspects of life.
The Lazy Person’s Guide to Success is a light and highly recommended read.
It’s a hard book to find in Spanish in print, but I suggest getting the digital edition on Amazon—it’s a bargain.
Beyond what the title promises, this book encourages reflection on your life, dreams, and deepest aspirations.
