Plus, you’ll need access to a big desk, a comfy chair, a bookshelf, a whiteboard or bulletin board, school supplies, folders, and dividers to stay organized. And of course, don’t forget the importance of having a laptop.
The Importance of Having a Study Environment
Your study environment is the place where you’ll spend many hours studying, whether it’s for college or school. It could be your bedroom, your living room, the kitchen, or a section of your school or university.
It’s important to understand that it needs to be a place where you can work comfortably. Even if it’s not a space that belongs to you, you need to make it your own. It will be your space, your operation center, your bunker.
10 Tips for Creating a Study Space
1. Isolation
The perfect study space is a separate room where you can be alone and in silence, so you don’t have to deal with annoying noises while studying.
If that’s not an option, you can simulate isolation, for example, by using headphones with ambient music or relaxing sounds.
2. Lighting
The type of lighting for studying is essential. Make sure your study space is well-lit. If possible, let in natural sunlight to keep the space warm and natural.
When you don’t have the sun on your side, it’s a good idea to have a desk lamp.
If you’re using LED lamps, look for ones equivalent to 40 or 60 watts of regular lamps. 75-watt ones can be too bright.

3. Ventilation and Heating
Your study space needs to be comfortable. If you can find a place with a window, that’s even better. A window helps a lot in oxygenating the space.
Also, if you’re in a season where it’s hot, the space should be cool. On the other hand, if it’s winter, it should be warm.
While you study, the room temperature should be comfortable enough for you to forget about it and focus solely on getting your tasks done.
4. Desk or Table
Naturally, in your study space, you need a piece of furniture to place your materials. The important thing is to have as much space as possible.
The desk should be as wide and long as possible. Pay attention to these details.
5. Chair
You’ve probably read many times about how important it is to sit properly. Well, from experience, I can assure you that it might be the most important thing of all.
The way you sit will determine the position of your spine, especially in the cervical area. If you sit wrong, you’ll end up with back and neck pain.
It’s important to get a good chair for studying. One with a backrest that keeps your spine straight and is as comfortable as possible.

6. Whiteboard or Bulletin Board
An important element to improve your organization is having a whiteboard or bulletin board where you can keep track of tasks to complete, assignment deadlines, or exam dates.
Most people usually opt for a bulletin board. However, in my opinion, that was a good option in the past. Nowadays, it’s better to buy a magnetic whiteboard. They have many advantages.

7. Bookshelf
It doesn’t need to be big, but if you have a small piece of furniture dedicated to your textbooks and manuals, it will be convenient to access them. This way, you’ll also avoid them getting damaged or collecting dust if they’re left elsewhere. Every once in a while, it’s a good idea to clean your bookshelf.

8. School Supplies
Pencils, pens, erasers, notebooks, paper clips, etc. Time may pass, and technology may advance, but you’ll always need school supplies for studying. You should always have all these items, regardless of your educational level.9.
9. Folders or Dividers
A great way to stay organized is by separating subjects into folders. Not only class notes, but everything related to the subject.
This division is inspired by the GTD (Getting Things Done) method, which suggests filing away absolutely every aspect of your activity.
10. Laptop
If your study environment is at home, and you have a desktop computer or laptop, ideally, it should be close to your desk. If it takes up too much space, it can be placed aside. But keep in mind that the internet is a very important source of information nowadays.
